2 hours of incredible music!
The ESO, the Bay Area’s 17-piece jewel of a big band, is led by Erik Jekabson, acclaimed trumpeter, composer and arranger, and educator. The PAC is a modern auditorium located on the campus of Menlo-Atherton High School, 555 Middlefield Road, Atherton, with entrances on Middlefield and Ringwood Avenue and free parking in the lot.
The ESO features 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxes and rhythm section and occasional percussionists and other guests. Band members include many of the Bay Area’s best local musicians, talented composers and arrangers as well as players. The band’s style derives from many sources, including New Orleans, but Latin jazz acts as the band’s muse, and it features many original compositions created by Erik and its other stellar members, and also arrangements by band members of covers by many prominent jazz composers, including McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, and Mel Torme.
In a recent AllMusic review of the band’s last CD release, The Falling Dream, writer Thom Jurek said, the ESO “has become a many-headed beast ready to take the jazz world by storm. All killer, no filler.”
Whether you already have enjoyed the fine music of the ESO, or it will be an introduction to their swinging, soul-satisfying music, plan now to join us!
